CHRISTIAN MESSAGE

(Back to Questions)
Q: In the chart on the website (see “Could you provide a chart on different religions and their differences?”) under ‘Christian’ and ‘What’s our human situation’ it says “I’m sinful by nature and am unable to please God.  Sin breaks my relationship with God.”

This sentence seems at odds with the Christian message of hope and love.  It sounds very…defeating.  Please elaborate on this.

A: You are absolutely right…it is very defeating.  Originally we were created in perfect relationship with God.  But because of the sin of the first couple, Adam and Eve, each of us inherited a broken relationship with God.  We were born into sin.  We are sinful by nature.

On our own, there is no hope of ever re-connecting with God.  On our own, it is impossible to please God.  But because Jesus lived the perfect life, when he died and came back to life, the curse of sin was broken.  He became the road to God for us.  That’s what Jesus meant when he said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

But that’s the great news!  Because of Jesus, it is possible for us, too, to live free from sin.  That is the Christian message of hope and love.
